ZEG

In his latest offering, conservative Australian cartoonist ZEG is asking what lies behind the shooting down of the Malaysian airliner full of AIDS experts

I am inclined to blame the international community for refusing to recognize the reasonable demands of the Russians of Eastern Ukraine.  They should not have had to resort to war to gain independence.  One might remember that a war was fought to gain American independence way back.  Has nothing been learned?

My sentiments precisely. I'll go further and suggest that, even assuming this as a mistake on someone's part, the rush to blame Putin completely for this is dangerous, and appears agenda-driven, with shades of Saddam's WMD about the whole shameless media circus. I actually have little confidence that the Ukrainian people themselves actually carried out much of the Ukrainian revolution. There are lots of dark actors out there and much of what we get told is only what they require us to think. We get bound up in arguments about Left and Right, as though each side has a strict compendium of required beliefs, carefully managed. I prefer to ask myself the question: Who wants me to believe this, and why. Cui Bono.
